The Lucky Grasshopper Crystal Dome Paperweight

There's a reason this one keeps selling out. People see the green and gold from six feet away, walk over, pick it up, and don't put it down. That's what a solid dome of French crystal does to a beautifully rendered insect. It turns a desk accessory into a small obsession.

Beneath the crystal sits a jewel-toned grasshopper from a French natural history illustration, the kind of meticulous hand-colored engraving that 19th-century entomologists spent entire careers producing. "La Sauterelle Porte Bonheur" reads the script underneath. The lucky grasshopper. Across cultures and centuries, the grasshopper has meant good fortune, abundance, and the kind of leap forward you didn't see coming. It's a lot of symbolism for something that fits in your palm, which is exactly why it works as a gift.

Every paperweight starts as a solid dome of optical-grade French crystal. In our New York City studio, we hand-apply the decoupage image to the flat base, back it with soft felt, and seal it by hand. The crystal's dome shape acts as a built-in magnifying lens, pulling every emerald leg segment and golden stripe forward with a depth and dimensionality that photographs frankly undersell. In person, it throws light. It looks alive. It sits on a desk or a bookshelf and quietly becomes the most interesting thing in the room.

Each piece ships with a folded card explaining the centuries-old decoupage technique. Slight variation in image placement is the fingerprint of the handmade process, not a flaw.
